The logo of Starbucks now The first logo of Starbucks
As people’s life is much busier than before, what they need to spirit them up may be a cup of coffee. We often see actors or actresses have Starbucks’ coffee in hand before they get to work or when they take a break. In our daily life, many people study or chat with friends in the café of Starbucks. It provides small tables for individuals and twin sofas as alternative choices for people. In addition, it releases many new products not only for coffee items, but also for snacks, breakfast and coffee alternatives. An example like blended coffee” frappuccino” is popular among people for its variety flavors.

Starbucks first opened in Seattle, Washington, United States. After it set up its goal to start beverage business, they opened its first locations outside Seattle in US. Later, it expanded its territory to more than 40 countries inclusive of those in Oceania, Europe, Africa and Asia. In 2008, it both improved itself and faced challenges. The chairman of Starbucks must determine how to contend with higher materials prices and enhanced competition from lower-price fast food chains, including McDonald’s. For improvement, it announced its hope to enter the energy drink market by no longer using pre-ground coffee beans. Then, it called the coffee “fresh-pressed” coffee system.
Store closures did happen amid growing economic uncertainty in 2008. The cuts included layoffs and closing to boost its profit. In 2009, it was in its low tide in US since a store in NY was bombed. Moreover, it has faced many criticisms and controversies involved alleged relationship with the Israeli military, labor disputes and market strategy, which is a buyout of Seattle Coffee Company. However, it also does environmental impacts. One of the examples is that the stores give leftover coffee grounds for people who need compost. Another example is that it uses recycled content in food packaging and received award from the National Recycling Coalition Recycling Works.
Being a largest coffeehouse company all over the world, it invents creative and interesting drink to catch attention of the public. With many selections released irregularly, Starbucks is really a good opportunity to enjoy your leisure time!
So in America, is it expensive to buy a cup of coffee in Starbucks? As I know, in Asia countries, Starbucks is not cheap at all. In TW, there are still a lot of people think it expensive, such as for myself.
回覆刪除There is an interesting phenomenon in America which I saw on Yahoo news. That is, Starbucks' stock can reflect the economic condition in the USA. If Starbucks' stock rises, it reflects that American has confidence with the economy, and they are willing to spend money drinking a cup of Starbucks. It is interesting, isn't it?
